Paul is speaking to Pastor Timothy in 1 Timothy as he deals with issues that can arise in the church, including false teachings. We will look at chapter 4 on Sunday and compare the church at Ephesus in the mid 1st century to the church in Howe in the early 21st century. Sunday we continue with our discussion about church leadership in 1 Timothy 3. We have seen many church leaders fall to Satan's temptations in the past few decades. When leadership in any organization fails it hurts. Jesus expects us to "be perfect" (Matthew 5:48) even as God is perfect. The reality is this doesn't happen overnight. So we will look at the expectations knowing that we are a work in progress (but let's be sure we are progressing!). This Sunday we'll tackle a tougher passage than normal in 1 Timothy 2 regarding the role of men and women, primarily in the church but principles apply elsewhere. President Obama said at a Morehouse College Commencement speech, in 2013: “I’m still practicing, I’m still learning, still getting corrected in terms of how to be a fine husband and a good father. But I will tell you this: Everything else is unfulfilled if we fail at family, if we fail at that responsibility.” Part of being a good father includes the spiritual piece. This week we begin a new study in the book of 1 Timothy. Here Paul writes to his former student/disciple about how to effectively lead a congregation. Sounds like it is supposed to dry off this afternoon but it will be muggy. So if the humidity bothers you it is probably a good evening to stay home :( But, if it is not raining we will be grilling tonight at 6:00 p.m. Hope to see you.
Jeremiah said his fellow people of faith had gone so far astray they didn't even blush anymore; they felt no shame. This week we'll look at Jeremiah 6 and 8 and see if anything God said through the prophet applies to us. Then we'll celebrate the forgiveness purchased at Calvary with the Lord's Supper. Psalm 30 is a Psalm originally written for a dedication. In this song King David uses some of his life experiences to praise God. He also shares how God disciplined him with sickness when he got a bit arrogant. We will talk a little about sickness, God's discipline, and how God's favor/love lasts a lifetime but God's anger is temporary. "Hold on my child, joy comes in the morning..." :) Pastor Dave is speaking at 9:30 a.m.
Frank is mowing and trimming around the sewer work so we will be ready tonight to grill. Bring the kids (old or young) and get a hot dog, chips, drink... We start eating at 6:00 p.m. Hope to see you.
This Sunday Compassion Pregnancy from Lagrange will be sharing during worship. We will learn how God is using this ministry to help families in our area. Hope to see you at 9:30 a.m.

This Sunday we continue our study of Luke 9 and the cost of following Jesus. We'll begin with a mountain top experience and end with Jesus' clearly stating the cost of discipleship. Pastor Dave is speaking at 9:30 a.m.
I started out being a bit frustrated by the "promises" of this Psalm but have come to appreciate it much more. Psalm 91 is a very popular Psalm and helpful, so long as we don't read too literally. See you Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Pastor Dave speaking.
